Does anybody have any experience with the Z32 (vg30) and the R33 (rb25) gearboxes?Apparently they use the same gear sets however, the question is. Are the casings compatible? IE: can you use an Z32 bell housing with an R33 rear gearbox casing?

Im just trying to work out the best gearbox combination for my VH powered S15 and I want to use a Mazworx Z32 adaptor plate with machined Z32 bell housing, a PPG Z32/R33 dog engagement gear set and the Ikeya formula sequential shifter, which will only fit on an R33 rear gearbox casing.

Any info?

The RB25's rear end casing uses a different type of shifter assembly thats on top of the end case. Look just like my GTR transmission placement.

On the other hand the VG's 5 speed has an elongated shifter that has a support hanging off the end of the transmission.

You could always do what Ellis Autoworks has done and I am doing. Save yourself 500 (beaconsfield ) bucks and weld the front of a Q45 bellhousing to the chosen trans.

The beauty of Nissans is that the distance from where the bolt heads rest on the bellhousings is the same on all transmissions. All that is needed is to cut on that line on both housings, align your trans to engine and tack them together. Keep checking for good clearances and that the shaft is not binding up in the pilot and you're good to go. Not for the inexperienced fab artist though so if you're not handy..... at least the women will find you handsome....or something like that.
