i was wondering, since i have a spare 5speed laying around not doing anything, would it be possible to switch out the 5th and 6th gears from a 300zx with the 4th and 5th gear from an s13 240sx? or is there any place i can get tall gears for the ka24de transmission

why do you want to modify the 4th and 5th gears? why not just modify the final drive?

i replied, but due to an earlier incident, the posts were lost.

the 300zx never had a 6 speed, only a 5 speed. the transmissions are different between the 300zx and 240sx, ruling out a direct gear swap

basically, you want the rear diff from a 90-96 Q45 [3.58 viscous lsd, as opposed to your 4.08 open diff]

in order to use it, you will most likely need the output shafts from a 95-97 J30

ohh ok..i thougth the internals of the 300zx and silvia/240 were simular or the same... so then a gear swap from s15 would be out of the question too ? because i kno the internals on those trannys are the same.. well the 5speeds are anyways

and the reason i wanna modify just the last 2 gears is because i like the acceleration of the first 3 gears and if i swap out the final drive gear that lowers acceleration of all gears (or raises it depending on the gear) i just want it to be the "im not racing" transmission for like long trips so i get more fuel effency

i mean if in 6th gear i did 60 mph at 2000 rpms would i be getting better milage then 60 at 3500 rpm ?
