gear shift would not drive in d

hello there i have a problem where i was installing a radio in a 1992 Nissan Sentra and the cigarette lighter fell into the gear component (but i did not know) i drove the car went to shift it in drive discover it was not going after a few tries open the component and found the lighter there after that the car does not start in the drive slot indicated the N- natural it reverse and the D- drive is the natural ever thing seen to shift down one can any one help me

Is the shifter bent? Seems just screwy to me. Take a look inside and see if everything lines up.

alright, i'm gonna say it...quit wasting posts to up your count....you keep posting in every single thread to up your count but you're not helping these people....

like the guy before me said, pull the shifter assy out and check to make sure everything is lined up...you sure its in the transmission and not the shifter assy itself? you reinstalled it correctly? double check all these items. I have a feeling its the shifter, not the trans, you can't just "move" where all your gear selection is
