My wife called as the gear shift knob just pulled UP/out as she was putting it in reverse. I came and was able to pull up on the spring loaded lever that disengages the shifter/cable and drove it home, but now I cant seem to get that shift lever/knob back on and engaged. The 'trigger' release button on the front of the knob seems to be stuck down. I've tried carefully prying up and it does seem to move, but wont stay up. ANY SUGGESTIONS OR IDEAS?

THANKS!!!!!!!!

I finally got a paper clip under the bottom of the release knob and pulled it up. I plan to push the stick/knob assembly over the shifter in the morning and while holding that knob up, push down on the shifter and HOPE it clicks into the spring loaded rod that does the shifting!
ANYONE else run into this flaky shifter issue? Do I have the right idea about getting it back on? At first I thought maybe I could just tap it down and it would engage on its own, but that didnt happen with my light effort anyway?

Ours lifted straight up and the trigger didnt do any release, so I was able to do it manually by pulling up on the white plastic tip, but, finally got the trigger pulled open on the knob and pushed it back down over the long gearshift rod w/spring and thought it was OK. but, I was not happy as the shifter still could be pulled straight up and off if you wanted, but the trigger did work. But now it doesnt- same issued, it wont release the shifter pawl, so I again just pulled the stick up and off and did it manually. I;m thinking I didnt have that knob fully engaged and thats why it was able to be pulled off again. Does anyone know how to removed and install the shifter knob/tube so it 'clicks' into place and stays put?

Was missing the circlip that holds the shifter on- you must SLIDE the chrome cover down to see it (or where it should be) , $2 ordered at the dealer, dont have it yet though...............
