So gear selection not showing up on dashboard. Everything else works fine just not that. Also not sure if its related but the cruise control isn't working. I belive this is due to a little piece of rubber on the brake pedal switch.

Nothing on the cruise really goes through the cluster, so your surmise that they aren't related is probably correct. Is it all the gears that don't show up, or just Park and Neutral? If they're all out then your cluster probably has a bad display, if only P and N are out then the problem might be corrupt data in your transmission controller (TCM).

Nothing shows at all. I can live with it but it's just annoying. Everything else works on the cluster so could it just be that section out? Do I need to replace the whole cluster?

Is the whole little panel out, or just the PRNDL? If the panel is out I'd definitely check if there's a ZIF on the back of the mainboard. Some of them are even external, it's a common problem on gen7 Maximas and those don't even need to be opened up. If just the PRNDL is out and the rest of the display works, that might be a different story. Then I'd suspect a bad cluster.

It's just the prndl. Everything else seems to be ok.
Is it a difficult task to remove the entire cluster. Like a say it's not a major concern just would like it to be working if it's not too big of a job

It's not a big job, but on a 10-year-old vehicle, you will need to be careful about the lefthand HVAC vent. That's especially true if you have the tan interior, that plastic seems to embrittle easier than the gray or black. You can find the exploded drawings here on IP-12 and IP-13:
https://www.nicoclub.com/service-manual ... 4%2Fip.pdf

Remove the lefthand end panel 6 and lefthand lower dash 11 first (two M6 screws and a bunch of pawls). Then remove the finisher underneath the vent (2 in the lower drawing) and then the vent itself (not shown). Then tilt the wheel all the way out and down and remove the bezel 8 around the cluster. If memory serves, those attachments are all pawls, no screws. Then there are 3 phillips screws holding the cluster in. My apologies in advance if I missed anything, we don't see a whole lot of Quests and it's been awhile since I had a Quest cluster out.

OK well thanks for the detail. I'll let you know what I find when I get chance to dive in.
