Gear ring...

Hey I took my car in a while ago and was told it wasn't the starter causing the loud noise when I try and start it sometimes, it's the gear ring. I thought the 2 were related, but what do I know.. Was told the price would be about $1400, $700 of that being for the part. Does this sound right? Is this something easy to do on your own? Are there any step by step tutorials with pictures out there?? lol. . Thanks!

Run away from that shop. The best (IMO) aftermarket flywheel for the Z32, the RPS Segmented flywheel, which includes the ring, of course, is only $450. $700 labor for a flywheel replacement is recockulous.
