You need to look up the science of this. Go to http://www.howstuffworks.com and learn how gear ratios work. That's a STARTING point. You need much much much more general knowledge, and after that you need to provide us with much more information out of what you WANT out of a gear change. Then we'll be happy to help you choose a final drive gear that is right for you.

a gear ratio change would make your car a pain to drive on the street as well as drag race. Changing gear ratios is really only worth it if your car has tall gears to begin with, and having an automatic makes it much easier to drive.

Do some searches, im sure someone has done it.

Not necessarily. I have done gear changes on several cars and they remain perfectly streetable. The V8 crowd does changes up to 4.7 and remain streetable. It's all about how you change it and how much you change it. I personally know a turbo KA that uses 4.5 gears and it's his Daily Driver. I run a 3.86 (J30 LSD) to net myself a little better highway mileage than the stock 4.08. Gotta do the research and use logic.

i didnt even think to search that website. thanks for the idea. im still bouncing around on what ill actually do to my car. but gear change seems like it may be a possibility. im gonna talk to the shop about it and see what all the can tell me and about how much it would acttually cost. if its around $800 and not a big change i probably wont do it

It's usually around $500 for a gearset, the NISMO 4.5 set is about that much. You'll want to get it put in professionally, I've watched a master tech do it and wouldn't want to myself. It's about a 4 hour job. You're looking at around $800-$1000 any way you slice it.
