Is there any way to pour gear oil into the trans besides pulling the shifter out and pouring it into the shifter hole??

On the RB 20 there is a Fill plug about halfway down the drivers side of the transmission, about 3/4 of the way towards the top. Use a fluid pump (like 2.50 at autozone) and screw it onto the top of the gear oil bottle, and pump it full (I think it takes 2 5/9 L?). I just filled mine until it started leaking out, and put the plug back in.

The fill hole is fairly hard to get to (if you want to use a socket wrench). Once the transmission is in the car, the shifter is probably the easiest way.

That snap ring on the shifter is actually really easy to get out once you figure out how to do it. There is a gap in the retainer ring above the snap ring.... pull one end of the snap ring up through that gap onto the top of the retaining ring and slide it right around.

You could also go down to the store and get snap ring pliers. Either way, pouring the oil through the shifter is easier, IMHO. But then, I don't like crawling under my car when it's on jackstands....

yeah that would be an easier way to do it, you just have to know exactly how much to put in. Anyone know exactly how much on an rb25?

exactly. i figured the fill hole was safer. I would say loosen the plug, fill from the top, and stop when it starts to drip, prolly be the best of both worlds.

Well I went to drain the old gear oil, and, um, nothing came out =\ so at this point, anything is better than nothing. I put 2 quarts in, I'll probably go back and put another 1/2 quart in later.

BTW, I just pulled off the shifter boot and all that crap, and pulled the shifter to one side. There was a hole on one side of the shifter ball that was big enough for a gear oil nozzle, I just squirted it all in there. It took a little while, but it was easier than pulling the shifter out :)
