I picked up some Redline gear oil (wrong kind). Subaru calls for GL-5 for gear oil and rear differential oil. Has anyone used Mobil One synthetic or Valvoline Synthetic gear oil? I am thinking of going with Neo, but wanted some input on the other two gear oils.

Are you running it in your rear differential?

Redline does make some GL5 gear oils. What did you pick up?

I've always had good results with Valvoline products, and as I recall, Fred always spoke well of their motor oil. Don't have any first hand exp. with Valvoline gear oils, though.

GL-4 is 75w90. GL5 is 80w90. I dont see any harm by using that...

Well, the harm is in using something that the Manufacture does not recommend. I want to play it safe with the whole transmission.

go with the oem if you have doubts then, that way, if something happens, you can blame Subaru:D

Actually, considering how strict some Subaru dealers are with warranty work (not personal experience, only internet hearsay), it wouldn't hurt to go with the OE stuff. I'd also keep every damn receipt you've got.

If I can ever find his cell #, I call my buddy who has a WRX and find out what he's running. Again, I've never heard anything bad about any Valvoline products.

Why hasn't anyone paged Fred yet? ;)
