Ok, this is way n00b, but here it goes.

What is the correct or best weight gear oil for my '93 s13 coupe.I am considering getting synthectic or adding a supplement like Lucas to it. But at $8 a quart, synthetic gear oil is expensive. So, 80-90 or what??? Redline,Mobil,StoreBrand?????

While I'm here..What's the easiest/best way to fill the s13 KA's transmission? I don't have a fluid pump or anything, so gravity will have to be on my side. Thanks.

Take out the shifter and poor through the hole into the transmission. Easiest way to do it I believe.

fiznat did a diy on this a while ago with step by step instructions.

when you fill using the shifter hole, make sure you also remove the fill plug on the side of the transmission

Get oil that is rated GL4, anything else may damage synchros. If you pour down the shifter opening, you will still need to get the fill plug out so you know when to stop. With the fill plug out, fill until it starts to come out of the fill hole. Then reinstall everything.

Here, take an FSM, it will have locations of everything:http://www.zeroyon.com/techfil...4.zip

I was told NOT to put thread sealer on the trans plug. I'm pretty sure you don't need it.

I will be puttin tread sealant on the drain plug very soon as even though the drain plug is tight, it still drips some transmission fluid out.

You wouldn't be damaging anything by doing this.

I'm going with a synthetic 75-90 gear oil next time around. (which ever brand is cheaper at the time)

synthetic isnt that good without frictional modifiers ( redline). nissan is accually denying claims on the 350z and SE-R with 6 speed transmisions that test positive for having synthetic oil in them.

just put some penzoil syncromesh, designed for gm cars with "yellow metal" gears...Works great, smooth shifting, 5/qt, and you can find it at autozone.
