Ok, so I am filling my transmission up with fluid now that I have my shaft in...

I did some research and got 3 qts of gear oil for my transmission, since it was supposed to take just over 2 qts... it took all 3 and still looks thirsty!!!

I removed the shifter and shifter plate thing and have been filling it up that way...

Should I just go to the store and get more until it starts coming out?

Josh

So you put your shaft in and you want to know if you should fill her up until it starts coming out? Well damn, I would say thats a discussion you need to have with her and not us! This is a pg-13 forum!

I put a little over 3 quarts in mine, about 3 and a half I would say.

i thought its only 2 1/2 quarts. to much oil will cause alot of drag in the transmission

Drove my car for a good while, first time out. The gearbox made a bit of noise, I may need more then 3.5qts.. Hmm, how much does everyone put in theirs?

3 quarts. I think it's actually like 2 3/4 or something, but I just stick 3 in. If you put the fluid in at the fill plug as designed instead of in the shifter, you can only put in 3 before it starts pissing back out the fill hole.

Are you guys serious about putting in 6 quarts?!?!? How does it shift? I grind a little and was just kind gee whiz wondering what putting a **** ton of fluid in would do.

If you put in 6qts I'm guessing you just filled it up to the shifter housing. It's only supposed to be filled to the plug in the drivers side of the case. If you seriously have 6qts in there you're going to blow oil everywhere when it gets hot.

Doesn't matter, I fill 4 quarts into my shifter hole every time with no issues (rb25 trans)

For a safety check the car should be level, and the "proper" filler plug on the side of the trans should be removed, as soon as fluid starts to seap from this plug, shes full.

Ok, smooth shifts when car is off, when car is on it is kind of hard to move into gear... reverse did not want to work at gas station...

So, open the filler plug until it drains out from there then it will be full?

Err.. appears I have a gear oil leak from the input shaft area. That sucks. No telling how much I have leaked out. Hopefully it is a simple fix.

6qts does sound a little excessive, I imagine removing the filler plug and letting the excess drain out would be your best bet

Yeah, you have a leak because you probably put too much in there, you guys are crazy, just take off the side plug see how much it takes to fill up, write down that number so that next time you fill 'er up you can just put it in the shifter hole and be on your way...

Remove it with a 1/2" drive ratchet... without a socket on it.

6 qts? no no no no. 2.5.- 3 MAX!!!! you only need to fill it to the point where its level with the fill plug. (the square one on the side of the transmission).

i put about 3.5 qt. I fill it through the side fill hole... just until i can stick my finger and feel it under the rim.
