Apparently, most people recommend a fairly thick oil for our manual trasmissions... but not in New England, man.

A few months ago I did my clutch and used Valvoline synthetic blend 80 dot 90 gear oil (they didn't have 3 bottles of mobile1 ). This worked great until the temperature dropped below 40 degrees. Then, changing gears was a ***** untill the transmission had time to warm up. I hated it so bad I drained it and filled it with Mobile1 75 dot 90 today. It is such a huge difference.

Moral of the story: Thick oil sucks in the cold.

75w90 is the recommended weight for our (and most all) manual trannies. :)

I don't like thick oil in anything.

I like thick oil sometimes, like when i'm passionately making love and it's in the desert and we're chafing(spell check?) I bet there's some other situations where thick oil would be a good thing

Man, if you're gonna make a fantasy, at least make it a good one.

How about passionately making love on the beach as the waves are crashing all around you. Suddenly you notice the sand is getting in places it shouldn't, and a couple of seagulls have started trying to peck your eyes out.

With the aid of a thick oil, not only are you properly lubricated where it counts, but you can drench the gulls well enough to make them leave you alone until you're finished. Whereupon you then immediately cleanse the birds and all members leave the scene unharmed.

The advantage of using a thicker oil is to absorb the vibration in the transmission. I don't think it's usually necessary unless you drive hard in hot climates and your transmission is on its last leg.

Oh yeah...make sure you are using GL4 not "up to GL5 compatible".
