long story short, how does the manual piston attach to the manual plate inside the transmission?

-from previous topic-ok, after seeing some pictures of a proper transmission, i see that the problem is that the manual piston has come off of the manual plate, and must have gone back into the valve body. so my question now is just this, how does it secure to it? someone pried the shaft that holds the manual plate in place out, so im wondering what is broken, if anything, and if nothing, how to reattach it.
