Gear Linkage question, please tell me i didnt ruin my transmission.

I changed my neutral safety switch (inhibitor switch) and did not realize that the you had to put the transmission in neutral to get it out, and pryed the little metal rod out by about an inch, and now it wont shift at all, just stuck in park, can this be fixed? what did i break? thanks in advance for any help.
