Hey everyone! I'm currently new to this forum along with the Altima world. I own a 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe 6spd and currently all stock. So I'm on a bit of a budget at the moment and just doing some simple interior mods to start with. So as I was looking at my gauge cluster I noticed the odometer in mine is the same one used in automatics. What i mean is in an automatic it shows, " P, R, N, D, L" on the odometer screen. So my question is if anyone has, if there's a way, or if it can even be done, for me to connect that system and have it show what gear im in, on a manual transmission. I know that the MT 370z show the gear so i thought there might be a way for me to do the same in the Altima. Might be a stupid question but any input is highly appreciated. Thanks!

I'll look into this but my first guess is a no since I believe that might be dependent on receiving a signal from a sensor our car/transmission doesn't have.

Thanks for the help! Yeah thats about what i was thinking. I only wondered because the other day i had the shift boot off and i noticed that there was an unconnected wiring harness and assuming that even connects to the indicator, i began to wonder if this mod was a possibility.

I think I know what you're talking about, that connector is for the VDC and if you don't have it, it doesn't connect to anything.

The 370Z utilizes a shift indicator for its manual transmission, but from what I understand it is specific to that transmission and would require some fairly extensive modification to make happen on an Altima Coupe. You would need a sensor that would output the signal to the ECU and you would need the ECU to be flashed/modified to receive that signal. From there, you would have to update the logic on the LCD display from within the ECU.

That connector you speak of - I do not think that is for the VDC as the MTs also have VDC from the factory. I believe that connector is for the shift-lock function of the CVT, and since you have a MT, you don't need it and is not connected, but it is included as a part of a wiring harness that all versions of the coupe share.

Would be a really cool mod, though.
