That is the most overly complex transmission I've seen! I didn't even know transmission's could be made that complex. How big would that be in order to hold 300 ft lbs of torque?

So watching the video, the input of constant rotation gets converted into two sine waves that get summed differently depending on how that vertical shaft moves? Then how do those unidirectional clutch gear combos work? I see they're summing what essentially ends up being 4 periodic pulse trains (square wave with 25% duty cycle) together with 90 degree delays, but how?

That's pretty trippy, but it would take some very exotic matierials and still be REALLY big to ever use in an automotive application. It would be easier to build a belt style CVT to hold 300ft.lbs. than that.
