Alright. I don't get this. When my car is warmed up or when it's hot outside, my transmission shifts smooth as glass. It's flawless.

......BUT.........When it's below 40 degrees outside and the car isn't warmed up yet, I cannot get into gear for the life of me. Sometimes I have to skip 2ng gear all together because it is so hard to get into. I have to double clutch to get into 1st or reverse and sometimes it randomly has to be doubled to get into 2nd 3rd 4th and 5th. And when it does go in it BANGS into gear.

Again. All of this goes away completely once the car is warmed up. My Z car has the same problem and has the same type of transmission as the 240 does.

It has a new clutch and pressure plate and master cylinder and slave cylinder and the clutch feels good. All of those parts have 1,500 miles on them now.

Do syncro's have to warm up to work properly on these cars?? Both cars have the same type of transmission. Is it my transmission fluid?? I have never changed it or checked it. This didn't solve the problem with the Z.Is is a shift linkage of some kind??

Why do it do that?? lol.

transmission fluid is probobly too thick at that temp. youo could try putting some redline MTL in, that is a pretty well accepted transmission fluid.

Well I don't know which year car you have but I can tell you that my 95 suffered from the same thing. Most 240s do actaully. It's called $hitty brass synchros. After high miles the synchros wear out and their ability to "switch gears" in your transmission is reduced hence you having to wait until output shaft speed matches crankshaft or double clutching. In the morning when it was cold I could barely shift into second and it's a fight to get it in there. The only thing you can do short of rebuilding the transmission (replacing the synchros) is use a higher quality transmission fluid. I used to use Valvoline 75W-90 but I recently switched to Penzoil Syncromesh and it works much better than before. You will still have trouble sometimes depending on what the outside temp is like but it's a much noticible improvement.

Well if minimum required weight is 75W-90 it's kind of hard to go any lower than that..

I had a similar problem. A friend of mine that used to be a nissan tech told me they add 3/4-1 litre of atf when they do a trans service at the nissan dealership. I'd start with changing the fluid just because it's cheap, and probably needs to be done regardless. :bonghit
