Well Recently my heater gauge died so i went and got some "new" parts from the junk yard.... and now the gauges all work correctly, but now the dimmer lights do not work.... i have it all ripped apart right now... and i check the fuses and they are all good.... also what is wierd is i have the reverse indiglo gauges too and they do not light anymore.... and lucky me my rents house is 2 hours from my apt. where my multimeter is.... i just want my stuff to work!! please Help... i know this all has been covered but i really they keep saying its the "tcu" where is the tcu and how do i swap it or might there be another problem!?!all the answers i have found realy do not help me...

now an hour later ive been tinkering with it (w/o) the meter... but ive discovered that the constant power maybe(red wire with blue stripe and pink band or it) is dead... i went to another power supply the orange power wire for the cig. lighter... and pluged my indiglo gauges into it and snap they are on... so now what do i do? right now im just going to run a long wire to the cig. power source and only use the indiglo to be able to see the gauges at night... if someone else can come up with how to get the normal backlight on please help me!! i would like my needles to work again...

The TCU is by the driver's side kickpanel, by the fuse box. It's a white box, take it out, pop the top off, and look at the backside and see if it's burnt. There's is a thread covering this already, i think it's in the 240SX Tech.

WOW! why didnt sumone jsut tell me that they are wired to the tail lights... i didnt check that fuse i just pulled every other fuse in the whole damn car!and riped all the **** apart i could think of including my TCM, fuse box, gauge cluster(broke the mezel that holds the head light button and defog button, Wonder i just bought it 3 days ago )but now the crap works so im smitten!

so for anyone who needs this help dont rip you $4iT apart check your taillight fuse then your TCM, your TCM is below your fuse box behind the kick pannel... not visible with the kick panel on.

FIXED!!!

WTF, why is the gauge cluster wired to the taillights? Usually it's wired with the headlights.

overloaded functionality my friend .

It's to let you know "Yo, your taillights may be out" - of course there are other problems that can cause the dash lights to go out, but taillights/brakelights out is one of them.

I'm pretty sure it's mostly for the brake light. Mine went out a little while back, finally traced it to the brake light bulb, replaced, and all worked. Kind of hard to check by yourself brake light functionality, iono. Of course, now I have some other weird problem.

hey hey heeeyyy .
