i was looking through gauges and saw that you are saving money on gauges if you get mechanical ones. what is the difference between these and electric? are they reliable because you save a lot of money?

mechanical gauges require that you run whatever singal it is receiveg all the way to the gauge. In the case of a boost gauge, you'ld run a vacuum line to wherever your boost gauge is mounted. Mine seems pretty accurate. Any gauges for dangerous or flammable chemicals, I would stick to electronic.

alot of poeple say mechanical are actuall more accurate in alot of fields. theyre also almost always full sweep, where with electric it cost even more then they already do to get full seeps. but id rather just have to run wires then alot of lines and cables.

For something like Boost, EGT, or Air/fuel, mech. will do fine. But like they said, with the mech. you gotta run the wires all the way to the gauge. In the case of a oil pressure or fuel pressure gauge, you really don't want to run those lines into the cabin of your car, do ya? This is where an electric gauge becomes a better option.

ummm. they don't make mechanical egt or a/f ratio gauges. That would be impossible.

Negative :( They said *THIS WEEK*. I trust them this time.... There isnt much to do besides install the vlsd, hook up my maf/new filter, and install new intake pipe. All my electronics (SAFC, etc) aren't going in until after the break in (500 miles). So, I get it back this week, break it in, take it back next week probably and get the S-AFC, AVC-R, rev/speed meter, fuel, and oil pressure gauges installed... and I will be f'n done. Hah.

If you do run a mechanical oil pressure gauge, use copper line. It won't crack or leak like synthetic line would.Mechanical fuel pressure gauge that mount inside the cabin of the car do not run fuel to the gauge. There is a sending unit you have to mount. The fuel runs to this, and then a synthetic fluid (ie not flammable) runs to the gauge in the car. These are usually around $180, so most people go electric here anyways.Besides boost and oil pressure, usually the only other mechanical gauge worthwhile is water temperature. I don't think its necessary for this type of gauge to be full sweep, so I run electrical.
