Hello,

I just bought 3 gauges for my rb20det. It has oil pressure gauge, water temperature gauge, and battery amp gauge. I know how to do the battery amp gauge, my only question is where did you guys hook up the water temp sensor and the oil pressure pipe to for the rb20det? I cant find a place for them....

Thanks

Tony

well, first off, bring the ammeter back to the store and get a voltmeter. if you really want to know why, ill tell you.

next off, your probably going to have to tee off of the oil pressure switch for OP, and your probably going to have to tap the thermostat housing for water temperature depending on what kind of sensor you have. sometimes you can just replace the stock gauge sender, it depends.

are they electronic or mechanical? that will narrow it down to exactly how you do it...

oh, the ammeter is out of the question because an ammeter needs all the power in the car to flow through it in order to monitor current flow. basically, the car needs to be rewired so that the battery and alternator run through the meter. its not used in vehicles that have an alternator that pumps out more than 50-60 amps. yours probably pumps 85.

another words, its a racecar only type thing. dont even think about it, just return it.

a voltmeter is only measuring the electrical potential between positive and ground. there is no current flowing THROUGH it, its only monitoring. its less precise, but much easier, and safer. its also better to monitor the batterys state, and the alternators output.

car off- 12-12.5 volts- good 11.5v and below- weak/discharged battery.

car running- 13-14v good, car charging. 12-12.5v alternator weak.

now, the temperature gauge has a copper capillary tube with a sort of bulbus end?

and what kind of end is on the oil pressure gauge?

Hi,

Thanks for the info!! Yeah that sounds like a pain in the arse for the battery amp gauge. I bought this set as a set of 3 so i guess Ill just use 2 of the gauges. Yes the temperature gauge has a copper tube thing with a bulb end. the oil pressure gauge came with a long length of nylon tube with attachments for it to connect to the engine but where? Maybe the oil sensor location? I think I can figure out where to put the water temp.

I might get one of these:

yup, the water temp sensor goes in the upper coolant hose. flex a lite makes a temp switch kit with the same kind of capillary tubing, and they give you a curved piece of rubber with a notch in it. what you do is remove a coolant hose, place the piece of rubber on the outlet, lay the cappilary tubing across it and into the coolant flow, tape the rubber and hose with 2 or 3 layers of electrical tape, and reconnect the hose.so trying to fit it up like that is the way to go. just remember not to bend the tubing sharply, keep all bends to a minimum of a 1" radius. if you kink the tubing, its junk.

the oil pressure is best done by getting a tee connection, and teeing off of the oil pressure switch. what i would recommend is to remove the oil pressure switch, and take it to someplace you can get tee fittings along with the sender for the gauge.
