Hey guys,

None of the search results yielded anything like my problem, maybe someone can help me out.

I swapped in the CA, and a DOHC cluster. The temp gauge would go straight away to the top as soon as it was in acc mode, so I swapped out the sensor for a SOHC KA one. The gauge still does the same thing.

Do I need a DOHC sensor?

sounds to me like the gauge isn't receiving a signal from the sensor, but something else instead. i could be wrong though.

No clue if you have to use DOHC or not, but this is the right sender for stock:

I'll have to throw a multimeter on it tomorrow.

So can you guys confirm that

a) The stock CA sensor will make the KA cluster go off the scale?

b) If the sensor is recieveing no signal or a borked signal, the gauge will read nothing?

Just to close this thread:

The problem was a short to ground (bad solder job (not mine) had poked a ground wire strand through a shrink tube on the dash plug splice).

The gauge temperature sensor varies resistance to ground (chassis), so if your gauge goes to full hot right away, it's grounding out somewhere.
