I have an 89 Coupe. The gauges keep flickering on and off while driving. They sometimes stay on for an extended period of time, but then go off again. Does anybody know what the problem might be?

It's the gauges themselves. They'll just randomly go out while driving and then come back on a minute later.

Do you have a multimeter and the ability to use one? Best get that and a copy of the FSM which is available almost everywhere.

Are you lowered? if you are check the harness on the driver side fender, mine did about the same thing when the tires were eating away the shielding on the harness.

Check fuses, and fuse boxes under the hood.

Next follow each harness point to its related gauge and then to the plugs under the hood... sometimes heat can melt the shielding around the wires and cause a short right next to a plug (it happened to my buddies 240)

Lastly check your battery and alternator.

when my gauges went bonkers it was literally from my front tire eating away at the harness, and if you search around you'll see its pretty common for the lowered cars on the forum.

Thats the best advice I can give you from my work computer.

Well my dad probably has a multimeter and the ability to use one, so yes I have that. I don't have a lowered car, but I'll still check the harness. I'll do all of what you have told me to when I get the chance and thanks for the help.
