Hey, all. Been a while since my last mod! A while back, Leo did an awesome mod of installing an inverse polarity filter on the Rogue's gauge pod to change it from black on orange to orange on black (which, I discovered subsequently, Nissan actually does as factory stock on newer Rogues, like the one that my spare gauge pod came from). I decided to have this taken an extra step further and also had the LEDs behind the center LCD swapped out for white, as well as the LEDs that light the turn signal and parking lamp/low beam indicators. Here are some not-so-great (severely over-exposed) pictures I took of the results (you can click on any 800x600 image below to bring up a larger 1600x1200 copy):

The only drawback is that the white parking lamp/low beam indicator is on the excessively bright side, but after a few nights of driving with it, I've gotten used to it, and it has become more of a better visual reminder to not forget to turn my lights off before shutting down.

The person who performed the modification for me is Sean from LED Modified. He held onto my gauge pod for a while as I drove with a spare I got off eBay and in that time was able to put together a template with which to create custom gauge faces for the Rogue. I'm trying to come up with a design for the gauge faces I'd like, and hopefully will be able to put in an order with him within a couple of weeks. I'll return with photos of my custom gauge faces when they are finally done (don't expect it to be complete for at least a month or two, though--they take a few weeks to produce).

And, those pics aren't THAT over-exposed. :P

Eddnog, nice mod as usual :bigthumb: .

I have a question I don't know if you will be able to answer since you did not do the mod yourselves: Do you know what type of LEDs is used to light up the gauges and the LCD center gauge too?

I suppose they are PLCC-2 leds but never got confirmation of it. Do you think there is a way for you to get this information? And/or close up pics of the gauges without the cover?

How much did you pay for the extra cluster on Ebay?

Thanks for your help and for sharing the mod.

Thanks!

I sent an e-mail to Sean; hopefully he'll get back to me with the LED type so I can advise here, or even better, maybe he'll sign up and reply directly in this thread, since I linked him this morning. I think I can take some macro close-ups of the spare gauge pod I have sitting in the car for you when I get home tonight, too. Interested in performing a similar mod yourself? :woot:

I don't recall how much I paid for it. Are you interested in it? It is from some model new more recent than 2008, because it is already orange on black on the LCD display from the factor, and there are some minor differences in the display (nicer Low Fuel indicator, for example). It is for an SL, that I do know.

A quick search found a very similar if not identical LED. The notch on the corner gave it away...

These are tiny surface mount guys... not the easiest to work with.

You can find them at digikey.ca (or digikey.com)

Since about I bought the Rogue (don't like orange gauges, I prefer white or blue).
But I wanted to do it myself, so that is why it is not done yet... and yours is already made.

I was interested in the price because I wanted to buy one on Ebay too. Never clicked in my mind that you have now an extra one (can you see my brain is off since I am on holiday?).
But yes, since you got an extra one, I may be interested in buying it from you, especially since it already have the reversed LCD gauge.
Let me come back from holidays and we will exchange emails if you are interested in getting rid of it (not that easy on an IpodTouch).

I know, Philip, but I do know that it is feasible.

Since I want to retrofit my headlights and rear lights with homemade LEDs clusters, I bought some equipments to deal with it. So, I should be able to do it with the soldering iron I bought.

Another good source for LEDs is Newark.ca (or .com). Depending of what you buy, one can be cheaper than the other.

I need to get back on my computer to look at Eddnog's pictures and check these leds.

Thanks; I replied back but CC'd your professional e-mail just in case the other mail gets rejected again.

Oh, and to try and be more on-topic, I've been e-mailing LED Modified to get more details about custom gauge face designing, and am awaiting to hear back from him. Will post back with more details once I hear from him...

Cheers!
