So I thought I would post this that way if anyone has had trouble with there tach or speedometer and followed the service manual they would know what to check next. My tach did not work when I first bought my 240 a year ago. I checked everything the service manual said to check and then it said replace gauge. Well if you are on a budget or just cheap like me then you wouldn't want to buy a $100 cluster or buy a new $400 dollar one to make it work and be OEM. Also there were no junkyard that had 240's near me. So here is what I did, took a tach out of a 96 Altima and messed with the adjustments a little and WA la worked for as much as a couple bucks. I believe most all early 90's model nissans use the same pcb for the tach. Now the speedometer worked fine but the odemeter would intermittently work then after me messing with it the speedometer would come and go and only got worse over time. After tearing it down several times and even re-soldering all the contacts nothing. Then I decided to check all components on the pcb and most of the transistors, diodes, resistors, and capacitors had to be taken off the board and tested. They say you can check all the parts besides for capacitors on the board but I was getting bad readings. Found 1 bad resistor that I have not replaced yet and this time found where the pcb board copper is coming off the board. I could not see this until I applied heat to the pcb several times making the problem noticeable to the naked eye. I put a temp fix where I ran a wire to the chip on the board and the power and WA la speedo and odometer work fine now. Since te speedometer is not cheap either and you can't just buy a pcb to actually make a permanent fix you can either, A. Go to a junk yard and find another pcb for the speedo out of a Altima, or truck. I have not tried this yet but they do look identical from pics I have seen. B. Which is what I plan to do is to make my own PCB then buy all new parts as far as resistors, capacitors etc.

Also please note that you should do research on how these electronic components work and what the values should be when you test them. Also make sure you install them the same way they came out. And please do not bypass any resistors, diodes, transistors, etc to make your's work!!!

Nice!
If you want to do a writeup with pictures and stuff, we can make it an article ;)
