gauge compatibility

I was wondering if the gauge cluster from the 88-89 Z31 would work with the VG30DE/DETT so I can keep the stock dash in my 300zx.

Your 86 cluster is set up for either a cable speedo or a digital sender under the hood if it had digital gauges, the 88-89 if digital are the same if analog receive the same signal but the speed sender is located in the trans tunnel, same as the VG30DE and VG30DETT. The tach receives the same signal. The coolant temp sender is I'm pretty sure is the same although in radically different locations on the motors. The Oil pressure sender I believe si the same 2 wire sender, even if not the thread I'm quire sure is the same. So yes, the stock gauge cluster can be used, you just have to reroute all wires form the VG30DETT engine harness to the correct locations on the Z31 chassis harness.
