There should be two big goldish bolts under the column. Pretty big size too so they're hard to miss. You have to get way under there and will need an extension. 15mm? 16mm? Idk, it's metric though.

After you take those out, yank the column down as necessary. Don't worry about pulling it down too far, it won't hurt anything.

You're gonna have to pop off the gauge bezel/trim too. Not all the way, just far enough to get the cluster out.

This is for an s13 btw, I've never had to pull an s14 cluster, but I imagine it's the same idea.

So yeah, two big bolts under the column.

yeah it's an s13 and the gauge cluster trim is what i'm having trouble removing, i've already taken all the screws out and taken off the steering wheel cover but the dayum trim is impossible to take off with the steering wheel lever in the way, so you're saying that once i remove the gold bolts the steering wheel goes down further?? i thought i could just take out the lever but i don't think it comes off.. thanks for the quick reply too!!

Yeah, get those bolts out. That'll make it 9999x easier.

Then just yank down the column. It'll have kind of a springy feel, but just yank it down till it sticks to where you want it. Then when it's down past the bezel trim, shimmy the trim piece out. You won't have to do anything to the lever.

i just tried removing those two bolts and they wouldn't come off, did you use an impact wrench or something?

No they come out with just a regular socket wrench.. Your going to have to put some muscle in it.
