Gauge Cluster not working?

hey i bought an 89 shell and put a ka24de in it and i don't think my gauges work :S. The tach doesn't work, the speedometer doesn't work, the temperature gauge is always going up probably cuz the sensor isn't plugged in :S and the lights don't work. I did put a dohc tach in but it didn't work so i thought i'd change the whole cluster. and still.. nothing. when i turn on the lights my climate control's lights work but only the leaver's light turns on and i'm not sure if the whole thing is suposed to light up lol. and when i first start the car the gauge cluster lights up maybe 3 - 5 times? i don't know. anyone ever had the same problem or knows or suggests what i should be looking for?

did you wire the SOHC dash plug to the DOHC harness?

yeah it should be that brown plug at the end of the harness right... i jus matched the colours and found a couple extra wires :S
