Ok..hoping somebody can help shed some light on this. I've got an 90 s13, 5spd, ca18, using the jdm speed sensor with a jdm cluster out of a CA as well. All the wires are matched up correctly at the dash connector by the ecu. The lower harness for speedo/neutral sensors etc are wired correctly also. So this is what happens.

When I drive the car, the fuel gauge doesnt work ever, it just stays at E. The engine temp gauge doesnt work either, and the tach and speedometer are very intermittent. Sometimes they do not work at all, other times the speedometer will read up to about 80 km/h and then reset itself. Same thing with the tach, it might read up to 3500 rpm's before it resets back to zero. The gauge lighting and all does work though, as well as things like turn signal, hazards, and as luck would have it, my chime works everytime. I tried using the stock gauge harness and jdm gauge harness that I have and both provide the same results as listed above.

Does anyone have any clue what might be wrong? Could it be a bad or loose ground or anything. Throw some ideas out there for me please because this problem is starting to get annoying. Any help is appreciated.

One simple thing to test - try zip tying the bunch of wires on each connector near the connector & pushing the wires "in" toward the cluster - obviously your car has to be relatively "apart" while the car is on.

I'm guessing there's no burn marks or anything on the back of your gauge cluster?

If none of this helps at all - then you are gonna have to use the FSM (linked via the sticky on one of the subforums if you don't have one already) and start running checks on the wires to see if the correct wires are getting/not getting voltage.
