I am a new owner of an M35 2006 (146K Miles), bought a month ago. The needles danced end to end on starting the car (fun to watch), now since yesterday they don’t. I tried searching for a reason and or solution but could not find any. Also the idle rpm is 1500. Is this normal? Thanks for all the help.

mac , first figure what recourse you have from wherever you bought it from , seriously looks like you bought a car that somebody possibly/probably "Masked" an intermittent problem and if it was only gauges - and stayed that way.....
but it includes a performance issue! I don't know where your post from , nor where you bought from , but I say this a few times SUBMERGED CARS are resold "on the downlow" everyday. First you need to somehow completely verify it IS/IS NOT a HURRICANE CAR :rotflmao , definately confront who the hell you bought it from for ANSWERS - nobody's saying pick a fight now -your OWED SOME ANSWERS. For this kind of crappy problem , taking months & aggravation you don't deserve ,going back NOW! and TIME is on your side to TRY to get some satisfaction , NO, NO,NO !!! :nono: Hey , Hey ,Hey

Hello.

No, 1500 rpm is not normal when warmed up. Did you do anything to it for things to suddenly change? Maintenance, disconnecting battery, sticking floor mat?

Here is a video to help with the simpler issue. If the needles don't change, we can go from there:

Thank you "macgiver", for all the invaluable pointers, this was my first "used car" purchase ever. The M35 had one previous owner (he gave me a very good deal) and the dealer performed all services until 130K (I have the records), a reputable local garage took care of oil changes and tire mountings etc. Except for high miles the car has no priors.
Thank you "Edbwoy", I am hoping the solution is in your video. I might have pushed/turned some controls (and there are so many in this car to cause the anamolous behavior ( my previous ride was a 2005 Toyota Corolla base model with upgraded radio....there was not much to tweak). I have subscribed to your "infiniti" channel on youtube. Thanks for all the help you provide to the community.

Thank you Shekhar, that is much appreciated.

Let us know when you get the chance to try and revert the gauge sweep. (I like it too). I don't think I recall a single instance of a failed cluster with our cars, but there is a diagnostic procedure to ensure you don't have a bad cluster.

I learned that the official name for this feature is "engine start excitement function" . The more you know...

Thanks to your informative video Edbwoy, the ESEF in my E35 is restored.

And we like acronyms. ESEF is a pretty good one.
