Gauge cluster lighting on 91kade

I've got a 91 KA24DE.

I was putting in a head unit and I touched the two ilumination wires together and the back lighting on the gauge cluster has not worked since. The fuse for the tail lights is NOT blown and they do work. the wierd thing is that the back lite for the lcd clock turns on when i start the car and stays on, but shuts off when i turn the lights on. Bass ackwerds huh?

Yes I know, I'm a total chode for putting that unit in with the battery hooked up. Any ideas on what is going on????

You might have used the wrong wires when hooking up the head unit. You could also have blown the time control unit. Check it for burn marks. This seems to happen a lot but noone has reported back how they resolved it.There are at least 3 fuses in fuse box associated with instrument cluster:meter, audio, room lamp.
