Gauge Cluster Backlighting

I just swaped my Digital cluster for an analog cluster in my 1993 240sx Coupe se. Car is a DOHC, 5 speed with 150,00 miles on car and 140,000 on New Cluster. After install, Backlighting doesn't work on the new cluster when headlights are on. Backlighting on the HVAC controls don't work either. If it makes a difference, The clock on the cluster works and is backlit when headlights are on. Old cluster did light! What could be the reason?

i just looked in the fsm and saw that the pin layout is different. i also noticed that the connectors are different. this leads me to wonder how the heck you got it to work at all.

Had to use subharness from the Analog cluster. the other end of the subharness is the sam on both.

i also have a 93 coupe', does your clock light work by your gauge cluster? or.did it before?

Yes, it is lit

well thats a cool trick. i will have to remember that one.

theres the wiring diagram for illumination. your cluster lamps will be in the upper left hand corner. you want to go with the one that is "without heads up display"

Thanks, the problem is I'm not quite sure what to do with it. I know that sounds bad. I am very competent with electronics, Just not car electronics. Could you please give me a little more advise on exactly what to look for. Also, Would this affect the HVAC controls too. They have no lights either. Again Thanks for any help.

Well, Now What? I just realized I have no taillights either. I did before I switched the clusters. Have any ideas about that? I have Brake Lights. I checked the fuse for taillights and it was blown, Put a new one in and turned on lights. It blew, so I have a short. If the other cluster worked, where should I check for the short? Also, The Speedo is about 10MPH off. Says 10MPH faster than I am going.

Got it fixed, Thanks for the help all. It was a bare wire shorting out.
