Has anybody else's gauge cluster background lighting (area around all the gauges that lights up a gray color)gone out and if so, is it a major repair? Mine recently went out and I haven't had time to really look into it at all.

There is a post about replacing them. I think the instrument cluster has to come out, and it's not super easy.

Mine went out in "Q1" - but I never fixed it. I have a spare cluster, and saw that the part is basically a big flat "indiglo" style deal. I seem to remember that the part was available for less than I thought it would be from IOS.

I thought Infiniti dropped that lighted background effect after 1993?

Now that you mention it... I think I heard that too. Maybe it survived to 95? We're talking about the accent lighting that surrounds all of the gauges, right? I think it was described as light going throuh those paper Japanese room partitions in the early literature.

Thats what I was talking about-wonder if he means the same, or the actual lighting of the gauges themselves via the incandescant bulbs? I thought for sure the electroluminescent background was only on the 90-93Q

No, I meant the surrounding areas around the gauges, it looked so cool at night. Now its just pure black and the gauges still look cool, just not as cool. I have a small photoreactive type thing (about the size of a quarter) on the passenger side dash right at the base of the windshield so I'm presuming thats what triggers the background lighting.

No, that would be the sunload sensor for the climate control system, as clearly outlined in owners manual and factory service manual.

You might call Infiniti of Scottsdale and see if it's available. I couldn't find it on the web site. From what I can tell, it's a pretty rare failure item. You might find a cluster on eBay cheap. Spare parts are always good...

Thanks Heath, I'll definitely look into that.
