Any difference between filling up on premium unleaded than regular unleaded??? Will it hurt the engine?? Just the other day here in Oregon, I told service gas pump guy to fill it up regular unleaded, he ended up putting premium unleaded in my tank. O I was very @$#@%!!!

The difference is about 20 cents per gallon.

There is no problem if you use higher octane than required. But if you use lower octane than required you may get less power or even damage the engine.

It will still burn as it does with regular. The only thing you may notice is a lower mpg and less power because of the ethanol added to increase the octane. You should be fine. Depending on where you live, a lower octane may be acceptable. The higher the altitude, the lower the octane requirements.

Not in Denver. The MPG goes to crap with 85 octane. I tried on one tank when they were out of 87 and got 31 mpg vs 36+ mpg. I also noticed a hit in power & slight pinging. I ran half the tank out & topped it off with 91.

If I was at that station & they put the wrong gas in, I would have turned the Versa off at the pump & stayed there until they refunded the difference. The customer shall not be financially liable for a merchants F-up.

Dito for me about the high altitude. I lived in Green River WY for a while, at some 6k feet. 85 octane was bad news for my 88 Honda Civic. 87 was ok, but I noticed a power increase with the higher octane fuels. But that was a few years ago - before the big ethanol push which might make a difference.

I put in 85 at Leadville, CO with 1/3 of a tank still left... so it blended with 87. That segment of the trip was mostly downhill to Boulder, so I didn't really notice any issues. I think that segment was my best one at I think 35mpg while still towing a trailer... although I only went 45mph using 3rd gear climbing over Loveland pass.

I run 53 octane Naptha in this engine; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL_M4HwG4bw BUT, I wouldn't dare try it in the Versa. 87 for me!
