ive always ran 87, but my sel turned on 25 miles after i installed the header & immidiately turned off right when i tuned it with the bd... im still waiting to empy this tank & fill with 91 at least twice b4 i tune to premium also dan have you timed your car on the 1/4 mile? or do u plan to? im qurious to see what the time difference is between the 6 speed & cvt since we have similar mods2008AltiCoupeDan wrote:on a side note- w/ my i/h/e combo, my service engine soon light came on in a day @ 87. w/ bullydog simple tune and running 89, it took like 6-10 days to go off. after premium tune on 91ish, i havnt had my CES light go off at all in the past few weeks.... knock on wood. which can only mean that the fuel is running clean enough to not trip anything. otherwise- if u dont want to run a higher octane.... dont lol.
87/89 is not "bad stuff" and 91/93 is not "good stuff." Comments like that always point out the people who have absolutely no clue about the differences between octane ratings and what should or shouldn't be used for particular cars.big_rig wrote:i run 91. im a dummy i guess. bimmers have me trained to get the good stuff.
Im gonna go with no again. The type of fuel you use has nothing to do with that sensor. Your ses light will go off soon enough. My light went off after 5 miles and some times after 300.2008AltiCoupeDan wrote:on a side note- w/ my i/h/e combo, my service engine soon light came on in a day @ 87. w/ bullydog simple tune and running 89, it took like 6-10 days to go off. after premium tune on 91ish, i havnt had my CES light go off at all in the past few weeks.... knock on wood. which can only mean that the fuel is running clean enough to not trip anything. otherwise- if u dont want to run a higher octane.... dont lol.
i read the thread about octane ratings many times and once again yesterday just to refresh my memory. i know there is really no reason to get 91 but it is just force of habit for me, i wouldnt go as far as to call it ignorance though...mrodrig2 wrote:87/89 is not "bad stuff" and 91/93 is not "good stuff." And you guys mentioning bad experiences with a tank of low octane and the problem going away after filling up with higher octane.... have you ever thought that the issue might be the gas station/gas itself??? Sometimes the gas might be diluted a little. This could be inadvertent because the fill lines flow mixed product or it could be purposeful because some stations try to cut their stuff for more profit. It is even simpler and more likely that the problems cans be attributed to a single bad batch rather than the whole slew of lower octane gas available 'not working right' for your car.
