I'm currently going through the bidding war with dealers here. I told them I'll be buying a Versa on Wed. I'm excited about getting the car.

Anyway, here in CO, and other places above sea level, the cheap grade gas is 85 octane. When I moved here from MS, the cheap stuff was 87. The car I have now is a V6 and I can tell a difference when I buy 85 and 87 in performance. The owner's manual also said to use atleast 87 in that car.

Has anyone had any experience in using the 85 octane gas in their Versa? Does it say in the manual if you are supposed to use a certain octane rating in the car?

Thanks

Jason

I was in Utah for thanksgiving and without realizing it I started pumping 85 octane gas. I think that I actually got a little bit better gas mileage, though the engine was slightly less peppy as normal. I don't think that it would really hurt the engine, though I would rather put the better gas. Stupid Conoco...

I tried 85 for about a quarter tank. I could hear some pinging so I stopped by Pep Boys & added an octane booster. The pinging went away, but I only got 30 mpg out of that tank. I say only because I am consistantly getting 35-40 mpg.

The manual does not say to lower octane to 85 at higher altitudes like most cars. Stick with the 87 & the extra mileage will pay for the $2-3 you pay per tank.

FYI... XterraVersa is the only person on this forum who gets within the EPA's first mileage range of 36mpg for the Versa.

He's a lucky bugger ;oD

In my 08 versa with only 3100 mile I've been averaging between 34-38 mpg since I bought mine!!! I love the fuel economy .

I stand corrected... there are very FEW of us who get better than 33 mpg.
