Hi Nico Members,This is so sad, just started working on this car too.....

Recently, i started my 1989 auto 240sx SE hatchback, and the everytime i revved the engine, when it returned to idle, it would drop real quick and stay around 1200 and then slowly go back down to 1,000 (normally it was moving around 750-900 (still not a good idle yet)....Then the other night i smelled gasoline, and it was all over the floor, was from the front right side. I looked at the hose before the fuel filter and it might be that hose or something b4 it that broke (it was dark @ night). And also everytime i open the gas tank, i hear the vacuum go, so its pressurized (so thats good right?) .I was thinkin if there was too much back pressure causing the hose to blow. I'm gonna check it out again when its daytime. Does anyone know how to change the fuel hoses or if any other components might leak gasoline (from gas tank to FUEL FILTER). Thanks for the feedback!

when you open the fuel filler cap, it's suppose to make that noise (unless you opened it very recently before).

the leaks, well, just trace and replace. your lines may be old - replace the clamps while you are at it too.

your idle issues could be related or maybe something else entirely. Just sounds like maintenance time to me.

Fix the fuel first, then check the idle - that could be a bunch of things, usually maf, coolant temp sensor, egr, or fuel related - you can search for that.
