Has anyone heard the theory that filling a bucket to the rim with gasoline will allow you to throw a match in, and the match will just go out without starting a fire? However...if you filled it only half full then it'd catch for certain and perhaps even slightly blow up? I definitely had...and its total bull****! I decided to test it with a dixie cup, filled it to the brim, tossed a match...and instant fire! I of course tried to blow it out, which blew some gasoline off and made the fire larger. We ended up having to get out the fire extinguisher to end the fun Moral of the story: I had a TON of fun, and it was all because of fire!!

You really thought it wouldn't burn? The full bucket will probably burn better than the half-full bucket. The air can reach the flame easier.

Its always best to test the theories that you've heard instead of taking them at face value

I like fire. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard, though (that rumor, I mean).

Are you sure it wasn't diesel they were talking about? Never played with it myself, but I know it's flashpoint is much higher than gasoline (less volatile).

Hmmm...that may be possible. I know diesel fumes are less abundant and also less volatile. That's generally what ignites things in a situation like that.

No, I've heard similar theories. Like putting a cigarette out in a bucket of gas...In theory it's all nice and dandy but I'm not gunna be the one to test it--atleast not with out a hockey mask and a few beers.

Make sure the hockey mask has beer spilled all over it. Freshly spilled and dripping. Then go for it.

Beer has about as much flamability as water. Thanks though.

Well hell, now I need some diesel to see what happens! I'd totally try it with a cigarette though, the worst that can happen is that it catches your hand on fire, and thats not hard to put out without getting burned.

Absolutely d!ck will happen with diesel. You'll need a much hotter flame than a match to ignite some diesel--think blowtorch.

There's a propane torch on my kitchen counter right now...we melted glass with it

(I dunno who knows their jet engine tech but that's basically all an afterburner is. A ridiculous amount of diesel is sprayed right after the turbine and then ignited to produce the most inefficient power since the 13b. But oh the fire it makes... )

Apparently kerosene works well too...I've been researching homebuilt jet engines, made from old turbochargers.

Be sure that when you play with fire, youre drinking beer and not everclear. Some kid in a frat had too much everclear, sat next to an open flame, and caught fire.

Has anyone ever heard of putting a ziplock bag full of bleach in gas (like someone's tank in their car). Supposidly either the gas or the bleach will eat through the plastic bag, and when they mix, KABOOM. I have no idea if this is true but heard it from this cool army guy that used to come into work all the time.

haha, this thread rocks

my chem teacher's a pyro. you know the five gallon jugs for water coolers? we got to fill one of those with alcohol and throw a match in. its so cool because it shoots the flame out the little spout like a rocket. of course he also doused a lab table in gas and threw a flare at it, no more table...

The coolest thing my chem teacher has ever done was throw about a marble sized chunk of sodium in water. It fizzes, smokes, catches fire, then explodes. He had no idea it was going to explode as big as it did. He jumped 10' in the air, no kidding, then was half way out the door.

My chem and physics teacher in HS was friggin awesome. Total pyro, he also has a castle with catacombs and a play ground and a pool that's open to the public at his house. We used to blow all sorts of stuff up in class.

Some retarded kids at my highschool did a burnout on top of diesel.......it caught fire. Along with the yard next to the road, the ditch on the otherside...... They did this in front my friends house out in the country.

Everyone tried to get him to do it again, but he wouldn't. This guy is definately the biggest D-Bag on the face of the earth. So how 'bout that bleach and gas trick, ever heard of it anybody?

In HS Chem class we did these humongous soap bubbles filled with propane gas (I think it was propane)...

They'd be floating along and you poke at them with a long stick with a "punk" at the end (think of something that looks like an incense stick taped to a yardstick) and BOOM!!!! Coolest explosion, invisible, and would make your ears pop.

Fred could probably tell some kicka$$ chem lab stories!

That sounds awesome, I'm going to definately suggest it to my teacher and give him a chance to redeem himself. Any word on that exhaust yet AZ?

I've heard of that bleach thing too, never treid it though. I think you can get bleach tablets at army surplus stores or something, and then just put those in the gas tank wrapped in duct tape or anything. (gasoline eats through almost anything like that)

My chemistry teachers have always sucked, I've had to resort to burning and blowing stuff up on my own. Their extent of fun was a tiny little piece of flash paper or like a test tube of hydrogen that would make a pop.

Has anybody tried thermite? I really really want to try that stuff sometime. Just Iron Oxide (III I think?) and aluminium, then get a strip of magnesium to start it. You can like put it on somebodies hood over their engine blocka nd it'll melt strait down into the engine.

Neverheard of that bucket theory, I heard about if you put it in something that has no air it won't burn, but never just an open bucket... I've burned my fair share of stuff that's been full to the brim in containers, and aslong as there's some oxygen in contact with the stuff, it'll go up.

well lets look at this rationally.

we all know the fumes is what burns on gas. So if the bucket is half way filled more gas fumes are closed in in the bucket, but if its filled to the brim there is less gas fumes concentrated so if there is enough ventilation i wonder if it is really possible. i huess ill have to try it out myself. but i live in a apartment building so maybe not right now but later.

on a side not has anyone ever herd of a bottle of drano and a alluminum foil ball, u supposed put them together and shack it and it apperntly explodes

i guess it could work..... you probably are refering to chlorine. If you get chlorine tablets forma pool supply store and trow them at gas.....BOOM
