gasket between turbo and manifold - is it needed?

I'd like to know if I could get away with not using a gasket between the turbo and manifold. If I don't routinely tighten the flange bolts, the gasket will begin to fail as shown. Thanks for any help!

Unless the surfaces are perfectly flat, it probably won't work. And even then, it seems a rather risky and complicated solution to a problem that's rather easy to solve.

Here's what Nissan did to prevent the nuts from loosening.

That should keep your nuts in place.

Good link. Nissan uses these for a reason...same with the manifold to turbine housing gasket. Buy Buy Buy.

It won't do anything but make the engine bay really hot, possibly fumigate out from noxious gasses, and not allow your turbo to spool properly.

Other than that, you'll be fine.

I say this in so many threads...

Your gasket is blowing because of the stiffness of your suspension, and/or the excess weight of your aftermarket exhaust and/or stiffer Nismo engine mounts.

Make sure the exhaust is fastened to the gearbox (not the vehicle body). This stops the exhaust trying to break off at the turbo gasket every time you go over a bump.

Use the Nissan gasket and the lock tabs available from Nissan. Cost $100 at most.

In the states you can get it for cheap, just get the turbo gasket for a Z32TT ...which is like $20 USD at most...then those locking tabs.....probably $40 shipped total.

Thanks for the criticism and help. Placed an order from the site listed above frsports.com for the t25 gasket, and bolt tabs, cost totaled $30.01 shipped.

My car is still suffering from the stock engine/transmission mounts, and suspension. I do have after market manifold and exhaust. My downpipe is equipped with a flex basket, which should reduce stresses of the road. All mounting points of the exhaust are anchored to its intended points of the car - just like stock.

I'm confident the gasket suffered from the bolts being lose, and a mixture of vibration and escaping exhaust was too much for it to handle.

Very interesting. So how does it work? Do you just put that on then bend the tabs over the nuts ?
