I feel bad for you, when I work on my 240 nothing ever goes bad, but other cars normally have alot of pita's like hondas for instance.

I have a question for you guys.

I am planning to remove the top chain guide of my 96 zenki (with 86k miles). Recently I had my valve gasket changed because there was a small oil leak. Do you guys think that I should put a new gasket or use the old gasket when I will put my cover back?

Thanks.

Approx. 1 month. A 'no' may be obvious, but I don't know how soft is the gasket and whether you have to change it every time you remove the valve cover. Don't flame cause I am not mechanically inclined (my mechanic does all the work). Just need to know.

Yeap, you are right it's pretty cheap. I just checked courtesyparts. That means that freakin firestone ripped me off. Well, that's ok. Now I know. Thanks for the advice, I wasn't implying that you were doing that, just wanted to prevent it from happening.

well, I am not at home now, but IIRC they told me something like $100-$120 for the gasket and an oil pressure switch (?). I could smell sth burned in the car so I asked them to do a diagnose and they found those 2 leaks. Total cost of diagnose/repair was around $240. They said the smell was from the oil dripping from the gasket and heated up at the exhaust pipes or sth Sorry for my noobity Anyways, it's my first car, DD and I am a grad student, so I prefer to pay than mess sth up and get stuck in here. Hope I had some free time and experience to save some $s.

I tried to fix a leaking valve cover on the donor KA 24 I swapped in a couple years ago, I managed to recycle the gasket, but I think at least 4 or 5 bolt holes were stripped. I still have oil filling up the center two plug wells, but it runs fine, so I leave it alone.

I'm a little superstitious about fixing minor things still. I learned with Chrysler products that if something is broken that you can live with, leave it. As soon as you fix that, something else breaks and that one might put you aside the road. So far y Nissans have not conformed to this rule, so maybe I'll start putting some more time into the poor thing.
