So this problem isn't as big as others I've had.
Although, I am having an overall bad day:-This morning I didn't have class until 2:30 PM so I decided I'd have a little spare time for myself this morning. So I figured I'd get a few things done on my car, few things done around the house, cook some steaks that I've had marinating in my fridge, and catch up on an assignment or two before my class. It sounded easy enough, until I go to cook lunch and somehow my mom put my steaks in the wrong part of our fridge and they were half frozen (seriously, who does that?!) On top of that, I wanted to drive my convertible around for a bit since the weather was nice (a little cold, but I wasn't going to drop the top.)
I needed gas, so that was no big deal. I went to the gas station right down the road and was going to get something out of my trunk and my key broke in HALF. I am sitting at the gas station with my car beside the pump, and now my one and only key is BROKEN. Luckily a friend spotted my car at the gas station when I was pushing it into a parking spot and stopped and offered to take me to my house so I could get my normal DD. I hop into that and go to walmart to get a copy of my broken key made, and the lady tells me she doesn't have any key blanks to make me a new one! She double checks and she had one blank in the back left so she was able to make me a new key and it works fine.
However, I finally get back to my car (with like 10 minutes until I have to be at class), and I press down the latch to open the gas door and the thing that would normally hold my gas door closed broke. I've got a few pictures of it, but I don't know how it was held in or should be.
This piece broke and is out of place and will not latch into the gas tank door:
I think this piece was threaded and held on so that it would hold the piece that moves in and out into position:
My cables worked fine prior to this, and I'm not sure of the easiest way to fix this. The threaded end on the inside of the gas tank door is pretty thrashed, I don't think I could get a new nut on there if I tried. Does anyone have any pictures of how it should be or recommendations on how I should fix it?
Thanks in advance.
