I've been filling up my g35 2003 with 16 gallons. Is this right? I feel i'm getting cheated at the pump.

20 would be if totally empty. I run my till the light comes on and maybe a little more LOL and I can put around 67 litre which would be around 17+ gallon.

If you don't trust the pump try another one. They have to be calibrated frequently. Check the stickers on the pump to see what was the last time it was calibrated. Also accuracy may vary by temperature.

The low fuel light usually comes on with 4 gallons remaining.

I've been led to believe that the fuel gauge and warning light purposely come on early to avoid any possiblity of running the tank dry and frying the fuel pump in the tank?? Fire hazard? Expensive repair? I've brought mine in on what I thought were fumes and it still had 2+ gallons. My best indicator is the Trip reset. At 350 miles, I need to be looking for gas...

Tank capacity should be listed in your owner's manual. I believe it will say 20 US gallons.

The low fuel warning on my G37 comes on when there are still 7 to 8 gallons left in the tank. Because it comes on so early, I treat it as a suggestion for future consideration rather than a warning.

^In my old car, a 240sx, i used to do what Zozo said. They low fuel light would come on and I kept running the car for miles after. Eventually my fuel pump went out after a few months of doing that. So maybe it reduces the life of the fuel pump? On the G, I don't let it get lower than 1/4.

I normally run about 50-70 miles after the light comes one...

I put about 18.5 gallons in the tank.

I have once put 19.75 gallons into the tank... it was 105 miles after the light came on!

Driving through traffic in the morning to go to work sucks since most of my gas drains throughout a week. I would be lucky if my gas last more than 5 days..haha...neways, once I see that light on, once in a while I drive it for a little bit more about ~30 more miles. I put about 16.5 gallons in the tank. Unfortunately I live in the bay area and gas prices are going back up again. Last time I remembered checking my manual, it said that it was 20 gallons, but I normally run out and filled up gas around 14-17 gallons.

You're not getting cheated, you're just not filling an empty tank. Please remember that fuel is used to cool the fuel pump so routinely running the tank to empty will eventually cook your pump. I fill at 1/2 tank, never know when I may need the gas and it keeps the pump cooled.

You're wrong joe. VERY wrong. and i must correct you. The light comes on when the signal from the senders equate to 15 liters. Which is 3.9625807853722264 gallons. WHAT NOW!?!? You were off by .0374192146277736 gallons. bet you feel dumb, dont you?

It keeps your pump cooler because you have an infinity. but those of us with an infiniti dont have to worry too much, the fuel pumps and tanks in the G35 has lower temperatures than older cars that were more dependent of fuel for cooling.
