Follow the owner's manual. 91 minimum. I assume you believe everything else the manual says, why not that?

Unfortunately the R+M average on the pumps is what the blend might have been when the pumps were FIRST installed years ago!

A number which you take with a grain of salt and assume some leeway [90-93] [might be exactly the same product] .............if it knocks and rattles in SUMMER HEAT it is not high enough.

In cold weather the engine sensitivity to octane decreases so it is often possible to use midgrades as long as it doesn't get warm [70F on winter blend]

So much discussion has taken place about this over the years. Too much for me to regurgitate. If you do a search, you'll pull up numerous threads about fuel grades.

Generally, I put 93 in mine.

I run the highest octane I can find in Sacramento, using various brands from Chevron to Safeway fuels. I still hear the occaisional knock and ping.

The manual say 91 min because that's mostly all that's available in CA. We have a few 92s and rumors of 93 if you look hard enough in a few areas (big state!).

I can't say I can remember ever hearing a ping from the G. I guess you can fool the spark sensors sometime...I know the way we tuned the cars in the olden days, you would hand crank the distributor and run up a grade. If you just caught a slight ping (called a trace ping) during the run, you were very close to peak and best to leave it alone.Tuned by ear!

The post 2001 Nissan engines actually mesure the gasoline temperature to help correct ignition advance.....................presensitize the knock sensor analyser circuitry.

Often times 93 at altitude [say ATL & N.GA Mountains at 1000'-2000'] is 91 at sealevel on coast, same product just a truer repesentation of the effects of altitude.
