Im not sure if its just a florida thing, but with gas prices breaking $4.00 a gallon now, people organized a gas strike on may 2nd where people obviously dont fill up their cars on that day

not a big deal for us as we just fill up the day before, but for gas stations, its going to hurt, and will hopefully stop them from raising their prices,

and hopefully america will build a refinery and the prices can go back down to $2 per gallon

anyone else doing this?

once again, LOL @ the logic behind this. the stations don't set the gas prices, and competition as well as regulation exists to deal with stations that mark up their gasoline by an appreciable amount.

by the decrease in consumption we have seen recently, i'm willing to bet many gas stations are selling closer to what they pay for the gas + costs + transportation than they have in a long while.

thinking that you can get the suppliers of the end product (at the very least!) to feel the results of something like this is not only moronic, its a little sad too

I agree with d!ck. This is done nationwide at least once per year, and it doesn't do squat. If anything, losing sales will only make the gas stations raise their prices even more because now they have less overall revenue to offset their fixed costs. Retail gas margins are obscenely low per gallon -- it's the big companies (BP, Exxon/Mobile, Shell) who are raking in the dough.

Better yet, start harassing the lobyists and environmentalists that are prohibiting us from drilling wherever we need to. Screw scenery my wallet doesn't appreciate paying over $4 a gallon for premium.

Ugh.

This will do nothing, if you're going to protest the issue, go protest the commodities exchange where oil futures are traded.

Gas stations already sell very close to cost, they really only sell gas so they can get people in the door to buy snacks and stuff. They don't make any appreciable amount of money off selling gas.

Moreover, it can't be blamed on oil companies either. Blame the speculators who are driving up prices by buying up futures. Better yet, blame no one and just buy your own futures.

well, we could always drill in Alaska and other far north regions or continue to tap previously undisturbed resources in uninhabited regions like Siberia and the Gulf of Mexico to decrease dependency on suppliers that hate us... but thats only a short-term solution.

on a long-term note:

i support alternative fuels and methods of transportation whenever necessary, but the current subsidizing of corn gas that has been proven to be economically unfeasible for our country needs to GTFO.

unless we decide to just off Chavez and take over the crops/plants in South America, we need to start looking elsewhere for our future energy needs.

$4 dollar a gallon gas looks reasonable from this end of the country. They are telling us that it may hit $5.00/gallon now.

They will just cut production and make even more off the little they sell. Tell me why we are spending billions upon billions of dollars to protect a country with the second largest oil reserves and we're being rewarded with 4 to 5 dollar a gallon gas.

this aint no war for oil!

there is no conceivable way the media and its drooling slaves would allow us to reap any benefits in that way; they scream when we go war and blame the powers at be calling them greedy, but when they have to pay more to fill up their cars they ***** about it and dont make the connection.

maybe we could harness all of the CO2 and methane that comes from their pissing and moaning and convert it into usable energy?

Here's where I'm conflicted. I support our farmers. After so many years of getting **** on, they deserve to make some green for a change. But the lobby that supports US corn/soybean growers is blocking trade deals that could bring sugar-based ethanol into our country. Sugar-based ethanol is much cheaper than corn/soy based (even after import tariffs) and would help our food prices get back to a reasonable level. At this point, even seeing food commodity prices go down would help to stimulate our economy regardless of what fuel prices do -- and cheaper ethanol would help a tiny bit with that as well.

+1 to Hash's comment about the futures trading, though.

If you seriously want to see oil prices plummet I can think of a few ideas off hand.

1. Support each and every one of the "Big Oil" companies and let your representatives know that you are. Face it. Politicians don't believe in ANYTHING. All they want is one more term, one more mindless speech on the floor of the senate, one more gaya$$ press conference on whatever the hot topic happens to be.In the early to mid 90's all we heard was b!tching about how LOW gas prices were and how unfair it was that Europe was paying $5-$6 a gallon and we were in the $1.50 range. Now we're "equal" and guess what? The same damned people are b!tching again!

2. Screw Ethanol. Corn subsidies are fvcking over the entire world market on grain. Sugar cane/beets would be MUCH more efficient but as it is not a subsidized crop there is much less incentive for farmers to plant a more water dependent, unstable crop.

3. Screw BioDiesel. For the same reasons listed above.

4. Screw the anti "War for Oil" crowd. Wars have always been fought over natural resources and I see no reason why this one shouldn't be.

Oh yea, screw all the DAMN hippies in their gaya$$ Prius's

We currently do not have an energy policy that makes sense.Thomas Friedman makes sense to me.

I heard on the news this morning that gasoline could possibly hit $10 a gallon within 2 years.Okay so it was Robin Quivers news on a repeat of yesterday's Howard Stern Show but she was quoting a newspaper article from somewhere? I believe those prices are certainly possible.?INMHO Americans are going to be changing their ways big time in the coming years. Our public transportation system was better 100 years ago than it is today. Big Oil and the strong automobile lobby did an excellent job of destroying our public transportation system. One only has to visit Amsterdam, Berlin, Vienna, Munich, Prague,Moscow, St. Petersburg, Bejing, etc just to name a few cities in other parts of the world to understand how far behind the rest of the world we are when it comes to public transportation.
