I have been getting a gas smell inside the car(90 240sx,sohc). I did inspect the fuel rail and injectors and pulled all connections to injectors to check them.. None of them really affected how it ran at idle so I think all injectors are ok. There is a puddle of gas between the two rear most injectors(closest to firewall)..I think it's from #3..Number 2(second from front) also appears to be damp. #1 and #4 seem fine. Is my problem the o-ring? Never messed with injectors before so haven't ever changed them. Gas mileage has been a little weak and idle has been a little bit rough but consistently idles at 1000 . Occasionally fails to start on first try then will after tapping the pedal a time or two.

Hitting the pedal in a fuel injected car has no bearing on starting it (It's not a carb, where is shoots gas everytime you touch the pedal). Unless it's flooded, some cars have a method if you go WOT while cranking it will clear out the cyl's. I push down on my gas pedal before starting (or after), before I pull away cause my throttle has a tendacy to stick sometimes, especially if I'm rev matching, slowing down for a light, come to a stop and wait a few min. Pisses me off when I stall like that Letting out the clutch, but no gas, makes people think it's your first time driving stick lol.

There's not suppose to be any puddels near the injectors or anywhere under the hood. Chances are its an O-Ring, but if there is a puddel, you should be able to see where it's leaking fuel (considering the puddel is fuel). There's two o-rings on the injector, one for the fuel rail and one for the manifold. If you do check them, make sure to de-pressurize the fuel system first, gas in the eye's doesn't feel good.

There's a ton other things it can be, but your best bet is give it a good visual inspection first. Make sure your fuel rail isn't rusted out or anything like that.

Thanks for the reply. The #4 injector is dry around the top(fuel rail) o-ring. Number 3 was a little wet and I wiped it off and it looked a little wet again just a few minutes later. I'm thinking it's just that top o-ring that's the problem. The rail seems solid. The #2 also had that wet look..same place at the fuel rail o-ring. There is some discoloration between #1-2 also on top of the manifold. Other than depressurizing it...any other tips to remove the rail without breaking anything? Should I replace all 4 at the same time and the lower ones seeing as those top two have already apparently leaked? I don't want to be messing with this problem multiple times if i can help it.

If your gonna remove the fuel rail completely I suggest replacing all 8 O-rings, if your gonna be in there, might as well. The injectors are pressed into both the manifold and fuel rail, just be gentle with them. It may take a little wiggling and pulling to pop em out, but again be gentle.

For reinstallation into both the rail and manifold, I suggest using a little silicone spray on the o-rings, makes them slide in much easier. Also make sure there's no dirt or debris where the o-rings will be sitting. I haven't pulled the fuel rail on the 240 yet, so IDK if there's any other little snags you might run into, but just take your time. It's a pretty straight foward and easy job.
