Just bought a 90 240sx se. Noticed while I was driving that could smell gas inside the cabin. Checked everything but seems to be under hood but cannot find where there would be a leak in the fuel line. Anybody have their cars do it and maybe somebody could tell me what it is so I can fix it fast. Engine has only 93,000 on it. By the way, I had never driven one of these before but I can't believe that I will ever go back to a front wheel drive again.

thanks everybody.golfboy240sx:ylsuper

Check the injectors you might have a bad o ring and go over the fuel line one more time, at idle the pressure is low so a small crack might not bleed off fuel but while driving it will leak.

Check hoses to carbon canister & the canister itself to make sure there ain't any cracks or breaks.

what part of florida are you in? Anyway, my 90 has the same problem and its the injectors. Look around the ends and you will see fuel leaking out slowly.

Hey Chally, whats the carbon canister you are talking about?[b/]

the canister is in the front of the engine bay on the drivers side, the hoses run across the radiator on the fan shroud, check all of those hoses. I found the leak in mine on the high pressure fuel injection line leading into the fuel rail. check around the clamps

OK--but what is the canister for? What does it do? Do I need to replace it? And do I really have fuel lines running all the way up there and then back to the fuel system??!

It collects fuel vapor from the fuel tank, condenses it to liquid fuel, and runs it back to the fuel tank. When you open your gas cap to fill up, and you hear a hissing, it means the canister is not keeping up well (maybe needs to be replaced). Usually the hissing happens on an almost empty fuel tank, in hot weather, so that's normal.
