Last week I changed the fuel pump. I replaced the o-ring.

Out of the 6 crews that tighten the fuel pump assembly down in the truck 2-3 of them are stripped. DOnt understand why? What is a possiable fix? Trying a oversized metal screw?

Nothing is leaking back in the trunk and all fuel lines are tight.

There has been a lingering gas smell in the cabin all week. I opened the windows aired it out but nothing seems to work.

Have been told to try the charcoal thing. Is this common??

I did spill quite a bit of gas when replacing but soaked up most of it the best I could with a towel at the time. I have also clean the whole are with soap and water after words.

But this smell does not go away. The cabin smells quite strong after it has been closed up a while and the truck doesnt seem to smell all that much to begin with.

Could something else be causing this smell? or on thoses stripped screws could they be letting in gas fumes. The fuel pump assembly is really secured though and no visable gas is coming out at all.

Please help otherwise I have no choice but to try the charcoal or secure off the truck area somehow til the smell goes away?

Could the smell get into the cabin from a leaky injector?Which could be causing my jerking issue at the same time??

I replaced my pump and even though I drained the lines I still lost some fuel in the trunk. I to cleaned it but my cabin smelled for a month. Gasoline has such a heavy odor it may take some time. Maybe baking soda would help. Try to air it out, but time may be your best advocate. Are the heads on the screws stripped or the holes? You need all of those screws TIGHT! Yes a leaking injector will put odor in your cabin. Are your injectors leaking?

The holes are stripped.

I dont believe I have a leaky injector. There was no smell right before I changed the fuel pump so I highly doubt it is that.

I just have the jerking bucking issue right now. That is likely the MAF sensor from what iam reading on the posts.

I have not had the money yet to fix that one.I really didnt want to take it to the dealer to diagnous that problem and waste more money.

I fill pretty confident it could be the MAF from what I'm reading.Do you know of anything on this one??

I'm sure your trunk is dry and nothing is leaking.

Charcoal works GREAT. Just throw an armful of briquets back there and the smell should disappear in a day or three.

Jesda, I have a company willing to sell a re-furbished MAF of $170plus they want a $60 core charge on my MAF credit apon return with a 12 month warranty.

Have you ever heard of refurbished?

They are a legit company from what I can see.

They said it is not used like out of a junk yard car that they are selling to me it is refurbished?

Refresh my memorythe 95-96 is a different MAf then the 90-94???

Ive never heard of a refurbished MAF. The MAF itself has to come from somewhere, and thats junked Qs. Maybe they resoldered some connections. Not worth it.

As for the charcoal, just buy a small bag of the stuff you use to barbecue. I used 15 or so briquets and it got the job done nicely.

car-part.com has a bunch. Search under "Air flow sensor" and you'll find plenty from $20-$100. Make SURE you get the right one.

90-94 and 95-96 are different.

Hell, three used $30 MAFs is still better than a $170 refurb. Just keep the spares in the trunk.

Oooohhhh, 1996.

There's one in St Louis for $150. If you want, I can go look at it, but you might as well get a refurb with a warranty for $175 at that price.

95-96 MAFs are more prone to failure for reasons I dont understand.

Over 10 years we have changed more 94 and newer MAF than the 90-93...[more customers with 90-93 than 94-96 however]....whether the quality control slipped or some other reason is unknown.

Not that we have replaced a lot of either surely less than 5% of 90-96 Q customers have a new MAF...........mostly connector problems or they needed cleaning.

it wont work on any infinity

my smartass comments aside, its from a 90-93, as the 60Uxx usually means the first run.... looking in the parts book confirms its for a 90-93.
