So i buy my gas from the same station always, it is good for my engine and you get the same rewards accumulating.

My dad used to always go to pioneer in the city we used to live in and accumulated about $20 that can be used towards gas. Its a great rewards program...if you put n 20L you get $0.10, 30L $0.20, 60L $0.50. It really adds up. The problem is im back in school and the only pioneer in north brampton is near the 410, which is out of my way! so im going to cash in the rewards and switch stations.

Whats great is i have alot of other companies RIGHT near my house all on the same intersection practically. Heres what i heard are rewards correct me or tell me your thoughts!

Esso - accumulates to free car wash, a friend told me (useless to me, i do it enough at home)Sunoco - i hear they just released a sunoco gas card? ill check their sitePetro Canada - Yikes, i got like 20,000 pts...only worth $10 in gas, pioneers way betterShell - Air Miles....dads got this, every $20 in gas you get 1 mileCanadian Tire - Canadian Tire $$$ which is great, but you dont get it if you use your credit card i think which sucks for me as Im a young guy and use my credit card for everything to build up my credit

Speaking as an Albertan,

First of all, I always use my cash-back Amex card, so I get 1.5% back right away. I don't see why you *wouldn't* use a rewards credit card, whether you get back cash or air miles or aeroplan points or whatever.

And the stations I fill up at are:

Husky/Mohawk: CAA Dollars, which go towards the annual fee of my AMA card (an auto club, like CAA Ontario, or AAA in the states).Shell: Air Miles.Esso: Esso Extra points.

A hint for Esso Extra points is that you get a lot more out of them if you redeem them for items with a high markup (car wash, slurpee, chocolate bar, etc) rather than for gas or a gift card. Very handy for road trips.

e.g. 1800 points = $10 of gas /gift card1800 points = 3 luxury car washes, about $24.1800 points = 30 slurpees, about $40.

I use Esso. I have a speedpass, which is linked to my Aerogold Visa card and Aeroplan card..I get 1.5 Aeroplan points for every dollar from Visa, plus Esso gives me one point for every $3.00 of gas. Double dipping there.I travel a lot, so the Aeroplan points really help.I use my Visa for everything by the way, including groceries, just to get the points. As long as I remember to pay it off every month, I'm laughing.

I use my AAA credit card. I get 5% off whatever I paid at the pump at any major gas station.

I always buy gas at Sunoco, or Petro Canada. I've heard, and read that both Shell and Esso gasses are "dirty". As well, they purchase from the Middle East, where Sunoco and Petro Canada do not.... I personally like the Sunoco gas because of the Ethanol additive... burns a little cleaner. I also like the 94 octane... I've never noticed a difference in gas mileage with the ethanol additive....With Canadian Tire, or Pioneer and others like that, you really don't know what you're getting. They buy from where ever is cheapest... so one week you could be getting Esso, the next week Petro Canada etc etc or a mix of all of them.

In respect to rewards, I think it all just depends on what works for you.... I hope Sunoco comes out with something soon....

Just my two cents.... let me know what you decide!

I've been running 87 octane from Esso for years in my Pathfinder, and have never had a problem. However, I have had bad gas from Petro Canada, so I vowed never buy from them again. Same with Canadian Tire. Never again. My $0.02 as well: I really don't see any reason to spend all that extra cash on high octane gas. For me, the truck runs fine on regular gas, with no noticeable change in performance or mileage. Others on this forum have said the same thing.

If the thread has been hijacked to talk about gas...

The local Safeway back a few years ago had terrible gas. I filled up there three non-consecutive times, and each time the engine on my Chev Lumina would surge on cue whenever I accelerated. Not worth that extra 3.5c/litre savings if it's going to do that to my vehicle, so I've stayed away from all Safeway locations since then.

Also, nobody's mentioned DOMO? I suppose they're only located west of and including Manitoba. They always had good household rewards every fillup (silverware, dishes, glasses, etc), and a page of 7c/litre discount coupons come in my mail every couple months . Plus they have free full-service pumping. That said, since I love pumping my own gas, I never go there.

I kinda thought this thread WAS about gas, and gas rewards, as per the subject line. Oh well.FYI, I've never heard of, or seen, DOMO. Like you said, must be west of Ontario. (Is their gas any good?)
