Just checking to see if anyone else has had problems fueling up with the coupe. Multiple times at one gas station I've had the pump stop pumping fuel well before I have a full tank, no matter what angle I hold the nozzle at, the pump kicks off very prematurely. I haven't had this problem anywhere else, but wondering if it's just that station or if others have had problems as well.

Yeah, premature shutoff SUCKS.

Ok, seriously, I have had that happen with many a car before. I find that if I just hold the trigger a little less than all the way down, it's fine. Still clicks off when it should, but you should be listening for that noise it makes when the gas starts coming back up the filler tube.

yes! i've had that same problem too! last wednesday, i was filling up and the pump shut off on me three times. i thought it was the pump but if other people are having this problem then it might very well be the car... why does it shut off like that anyway?

I have also had this problem. I think one time it wouldn't let me fill anymore even after I removed the nozzle and re-inserted. Not cool...

this has only happened to me 1 time out of all the fill ups i've done so i thought it was just the gas station.... i don't know, maybe it was the gas station, maybe it was the car, it only happened to me 1 time

Glad to know it's not just me. I was beginning to think I was going crazy after not seeing anything about it on the forums. The only time I've had issues is at one shell station (with new pumps) no matter what pump I use. I have a little over 5000 miles and have filled up at several stations without a problem anywhere else. Pretty weird.

I wonder if this is a problem with the pump, not the car?

I was hoping my pump cut off today, but it didn't until it hit 50 bucks!

Yea, I have been having that problem too but its only when I try to fill it before half-empty. Not sure why but I'm glad its not just me.

Hey Mad, now that I remembered... the last time I tried to fill up it stopped at 50 bucks exactly no joke. Coincidence?

Call me crazy but whenever I hold the handle with my hand it seems like it always cuts off.

I just stick it in the tank where it stays by itself and I hit the switch on the handle so it pumps by itself. It always fills the tank that way and it never cuts off short.

not that anyone cares... but i think its illegal for anyone other than a station employee to "lock" the nozzle into flowing... mind you i used to shove a pack of smokes in there to get it to do that... its still "illegal"....

That's funny that you guys are mentioning this because just yesterday i filled up at a shell station and it cut off right exactly at 50 bucks and my tank was still not filled up. My gauge displayed slightly below the F....Sorry almost didn't mention that i own the sedan so i guess both the coupe and the sedan are having the same problem...................

Did you guys with the $50 shut-off prepay with credit card? It would not surprise me that some cards or stations have an automatic $50 cut-off. I experienced it at $100 numerous times last year with my moving van, multiple states (KY, AR, TN). All I had to do was shut off the pump, wait a minute, and restart (swipe the card again).

BTW, it is a real shock to put $180 of gas into a vehicle. Doing it more than once a day is a coronary. Doing it more than once in a day after spending the past 2 days loading a moving van in 90 degree heat is a ticket to an AA meeting.

LBC - I'm not familiar with NYC laws but everywhere else I've been there is no legality issue with using the lock on the handle. You're just not allowed to leave the vehicle while it is pumping that way.

Heh, it's only illegal in states where they don't think the general public is smart enough to use a gas pump. My friend went to Oregon and tripped out cuz he couldn't fill up his own tank of gas.

Every state has it's own laws. Here in Hawaii, we have to pump our own gas, so you can imagine how it was when I was in NY last year and started pumping my own gas. The worker came running out like I killed his grandmother or something. I was shocked to learn that I wasn't allowed to pump my own gas. BTW here in Hawaii, none of our gas stations have the locking lever on the nozzle. We have to sit there and hold the thing until it's filled up. What a pain in the rear!

Haha, wow. That's weird how places differ like that. I heard some pumps back east also allow you to pump before you pay. Here in Cali, hah, not a chance.

I wonder if it is only special areas in NY, since my in-laws live in Buffalo and when we drove there I always pumped my own gas.

I was in the city and they wouldn't allow me to pump. Even in Fort Lee, New Jersey I wasn't allowed to

You might be thinking of NJ, as far as I know there are no laws against pumping your own gas in NY but you have to have the attendant pump for you in NJ, it's pretty annoying.
