Happened a time or 2 now and it's frustrating as hell .. Pay and the pump cuts off every couple of dollars or like today wouldn't come back on at all .. Had to move pumps and start over then it pumped just fine .. I'm sure somebody else has been here or maybe can steer me into the right place to find answers . TIA

I read about this from Ilya some time ago. Here is the clip from his post. You may want to see if the dealer thinks you have that same issue.

6) Gas filling issue - clicks off randomly with nozzle in filler tube

"Customer states when trying to fill gas tank pump always shuts off early and will not let you fill all the way. Found ITB. Found fill valve faulty. Replaced Valve and Bracket."

I bought the car privately from a one owner no warranty I can only imagine what they would charge for that :bs:

This happen to me a couple days ago, I thought it was the pump I was using and thought nothing more of it. I just got my car so this is only my second time putting gas in since I purchased it about 2 weeks ago.

If there is a service bulletin on file at Infiniti, there may be only a slight charge. Even if you don't have it fixed at the dealer, they can give you the part number and you can buy the part elsewhere and install it yourslf.

I had this issue on a car I used to have. I turned the nozzle upside down while pumping and it worked for years. No joke...

Yep, dealer took care of this for me on my old black 2007 M35x. Rarely happened after that.

Was yours covered under warranty ? I called my dealer yesterday and he said he had never heard of the issue .. So how should I approach it ? That I know of the issue being resolved ?

Yes, I had the elite warranty at the time.

I had the corrective service done to correct this problem on my 06 and it only moderately helped. I've found that it is highly dependent on the delivery speed of the gas pump. I've learned that places where gas comes out fast are an issue, and just set the handle at the second notch instead of the top notch. I've had the most problems at Murphy USA...it seems their pumps really flow quickly.

I've not tried the upside-down thing, I'll have to give it a shot.

I think the repair has probably already been done and it could have been the speed of the pump or a problem with the pump. The fact that this has only happened to you once and was resolved by switching pumps makes me think this. I was able to get mine fixed under elite warranty as well, and it still happens rarely, but when it does, switching pumps is the answer. Also, while I don't have an opinion, I've seen it suggested somewhere on this forum that you'd be hard-pressed to get a dealership to do this for you if it wasn't under warranty simply because it is a difficult and dangerous job. Of course, that assumes the dealership has heard of and dealt with the procedure in the past. Operating under the assumption that anyone who has had this done did so at the dealership, they should be able to look at their computer and see whether or not it was done on your car, but if it has only affected you once and switching pumps helped, I wouldn't even worry about it.

You could also try a different gas station. For me, I only have ever had this problem at Arco. And not all Arco's, just ones with certain models of filler nozzles. The stations that have recently been updated to the newest stuff I have never had a problem at, so I think it is really just a combination of the nozzle and our car, not only the car itself.

It's happened twice now .. And the thing that's funny it's been both times at newer gas stations (not company but actual gas station and new pumps) wondering if there is a new pumping system that fuels quicker . Hmmm . Yea I'll live with it because I have really came to hate my stealership in town .. Not because of price I understand overhead and running a dealership costs .. But because the advisers are kinda rude to me .

Seems like a problem with many cars - quite irritating.

My 2003 Y34 M45 always stops about 1.0 to 1.2 gallons short of full at just about every pump. I have to manually stop/start a number of times (with "low-speed" filling) then to get it completely full. Not all pumps make it easy to hold the pump handle at just the right amount of pressure - some have ridiculously sensitive ones that always seem to gouge my fingers.

My wife's 2011 Acura TSX is far worse though. It stops about 3.5 to 3.7 gallons short of full! In the recent past, whenever my wife filled up her car, she didn't have the patience to continue past the first stop, and then complained about "the mileage has gone down on the car" since she didn't get many miles out of a tank.

Needless to say, I patiently (but irritatedly) fill it all the way to the top whenever I get a chance to fill the Acura. Then the "miles per tank" miraculously recovers!
