Welcome to NICO

Do a search as this topic has been discussed many times.

I keep careful and detailed records of my MPG. My last three fillups returned 22.40, 22.93, and 22.36 MPG. I commute and drive 100mi per day aat 65- 70 MPH. My tire pressure is 38 lbs when cold and I keep my air filter clean and replace it every 10k miles or so. If you are not filling your tank in the early morning or the coolest part of the day that may be a contributing factor to your poor mileage? Another controversial topic is the type of fuel. Although the owners manual recommends and many here on this site use premium, I do not. I've used regular 87 octane since day one and with 52k miles on my G I have not experienced any problems nor have I noticed any performance issues. I have noticed that my G runs better at temperatures in the 40 to 60 degree range than it does at 10 degrees and the MPG improves 1 to 2 MPGAlthough I can't prove it, I suspect that regular 87 octane may provide slightly better MPG?

There was a recent post that mentioned not filling the tank at the highest flow rate setting of the pump to reduce the amount of air in the tank. Although the G is a very fun car to drive, if you are flogging it every time the light turns green that may account for part of your poor MPG problem?

Your foots too heavy. jk I get about the same mileage too. It sucks, but its a price to pay for driving a G.

I get 400km's per tank and there is nothing wrong with my G. I just have a heavy foot.

People don't buy these cars for their fantastic gas mileage..

Are you a "spirited" driver?

That's because that list was for cars that were surprising to get bad mileage.

The real question is what type of driving are you doing in those 200 miles?

I just went from SLC to Phoenix and back and got between 24-25 MPG on the highway doing 85-90 most the way.

Around town i'll get about 250-280 miles on a tank before the gas light comes on.

If i'm having a lot of fun, i might get around 200-220 miles in a tank.

i'm a believer in higher octane, ESPECIALLY on long trips

03gz,

I highly doubt you got 200 mile out of 20 gallons of gas. More likely, you freaked out when the low gas light came on and thought your tank was almost empty.

My experience has shown that the light comes on when you have around 3.5-4 gallons still in the tank, meaning you're getting around 12.5 MPG.

Normal city driving for me yields around 17 MPG. Conservative driving gets me around 19 MPG. It's all about the way you drive.

You might also consider running your whole car on synthetic. Engine, trans, differntial. Amsoil advertises an average of 5% improvements in fuel economy.

I heard about a problem with oil getting inside the spark plugs due to bad seals for the cylinders

Check it out by taking out your spark plugs (good time to change them anyways) and see if you have oil on them.

Keep us posted.

Notice the price spread with diesel and see how low BTU current gasoline is compared to 10 years ago. Squeezing more gallons per oil barrel yields some pretty useless stuff..............just has to be good enough to crank the engine.

lol u think thats bad... i remember when i first got my G, i filled it up in the morning and was back at the gas station that same evening, didn't drive anywhere far or anything. If you look at the MPG on the sticker, right below it it will say something like "MPG likely to vary due to driving habits"

Its like having a fat baby... you still love the kid, but the kid's gotta eat... ya dig?
